Club Activities

Junior Club meets on Tuesday afternoons and alternate Saturday mornings.
We would appreciate any donations or fund raising events to help BASC keep the clubs going.
Club Updates:
Our Christmas parties were a great success Pam Golden prepared all the children for a Christmas Drama presentation. Each child had a few lines to recite or sing. This was followed by a presentation of Christmas Carols. Then there was a visit by the most important person of all i.e. Santa!
All the members of the JUNIOR club received a present from Santa while the older members received a selection box. Everybody enjoyed the party that followed and there was tea and mince pies for the adults. Thanks to the members of the Honda Club who attended.
That night the members of the Senior Club went to Padraigin’s Pizza. They presented their gifts which were selected as Kris Kendel. It was enjoyed by all. ( December 17th 2011.)
2012 Since Christmas group activities have resumed. Swimming continues in the Grove. Junior Club members attend on Tues from 5.30 – 6.15 while Senior members attend on Tuesday from 6.15 – 7.00 p.m.
On Saturday mornings all members attend dancing classes in the Town Hall under the guidance of Trish. The Junior members attend from 10.30- 12 noon while the Seniors attend from 12.30 – 2.00 p.m. However the Seniors are availing of an extra hour from 2.00 – 3.00 p.m. They go to town during this time and usually have lunch in one of the local restaurants. They’re advised to bring €5 each. This allows them to buy their own food which assists in their learning about money management – a very important skill.
BASC would love to hear feedback from parents and children about what they think of the club. We would welcome any ideas and support. Please contact Ann or Eileen.
The Brothers of Charity are commencing a volunteer programme so people in the community will have the opportunity to work with our children on a volunteer basis. Please contact Ann or Eileen if interested. If you can think of any other activities that would work well in club, please contact us or if you know anyone who could come to club to do an activity please pass on the details to us.The Senior Club, consisisting of 6 girls and 1 boy, meets every Wednesday from 5.00 to 6.30.

Special Olympics
Special Olympics is an organisation set up to help children with learning difficulties achieve in the area of sport. Different disciplines are selected such as Athletics, Basketball, Gymnastics, Bocce, and Horse Riding among others.
The Bandon Special Olympics Club was set up in September 2006 and our chosen discipline is ATHLETICS.
Originally the Club had 10 athletes, this has now grown to 14 with more to come.
The lower age limit is 6 years and there is no upper limit.
Training takes place on Monday nights (school term) in the Sports Hall, Bandon Grammar School for one hour beginning at 5.45 PM.
We have one coach with some adult volunteers plus Transition Year Students from Bandon Grammar School.
At the end of each year (usually May) our athletes have enjoyed success by participating in the Munster Competitions in The Mardyke in Cork.
We also enjoy social occasions; we have a Christmas Party with Disco and we have gone to the Mardyke Arcade in Cork where the bowling skills of Athletes, Parents and Volunteers alike have been tested!
During the summer months Bandon Athletics have allowed us to join their club in The Town Park, Bandon, for their Monday night training Sessions. This is a wonderful opportunity for our athletes to integrate with a local club and we will be forever indebted to the generosity of Bandon Athletic Club.
In November 2009 some of our athletes took up a new discipline of horse riding. This takes place in West Cork Equine Centre, Garrendruig, Killbrittain, Co. Cork. Again we have volunteers to help us and the group is trained by a member of the Centre Staff from 6.00 – 6.45 on Thursdays.
For more information on Special Olympics, please contact Willie Buckley on 087 2736836
For information on horse riding contact Susie Nicholson on 087 2800210
Thanks to the West Cork Vintage Club for their generous donation of €1000 and to Bandon Athletics Club for their donation of €250 collected by Carol Singing at Christmas time.
